Julie R McCrea is a seasoned professional in the field of adult education, an accomplished author, and a passionate advocate for newcomers to Canada. Currently serving as an eLearning and Employment Project Specialist at the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN), Julie has dedicated over two decades of her life to education and community service.

Her journey began in university where she volunteered as a tutor and mentor, sparking a lifelong passion for education. This experience steered her away from a Geology degree and towards a career focused on people rather than rocks. Today, she couldn’t be more grateful for that pivotal moment.

Julie’s work at EMCN involves the development, creation, and implementation of eLearning materials to support both internal and external clients. She is involved in multiple project areas such as workshop facilitation, program development, strategic planning, and social media management, among others. She also co-chairs the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) committee.

In addition to her role at EMCN, Julie is an accomplished author, contributing insightful articles to various platforms, including civicholiday.org. Her writings focus on the experiences of newcomers to Canada, Canadian culture, and the importance of inclusive practices in society. Her unique perspective and engaging writing style make her a valuable contributor to the literary community.

Julie holds a Certificate in eLearning from the University of Calgary and a Certificate with Distinction in Social Media Marketing and Communications from the University of Alberta. She has also earned certificates in Inclusion at Work from NorQuest College and Adult and Continuing Education and Teaching from the University of Alberta. Her commitment to lifelong learning and professional development is evident in her educational achievements.

A vocal supporter of the LGBTQ2S+ community, Julie takes pride in celebrating and honoring diversity. She actively participates in Pride Month and uses her platform to educate others about the importance of acceptance and inclusivity.

In her spare time, Julie volunteers at various community events and has served as a foster home for rescued dogs. Her commitment to service, both in her professional and personal life, is a testament to her dedication to making a difference in the world.
